Garbage’s hit 1995 single ‘Only Happy When It Rains’ might sound like an anthem for the angst-ridden grunge era, but it was actually written as a tongue-in-cheek parody of other alternative rock songs of the mid-90s, as well as a self-deprecating take on their own interest in dark, sad music. It went on to become one of the band’s most iconic songs.
