One of our favourite things to do here at BlackMilk is find an artist we really love, send them an email (along the lines of ‘hey, we really love you!’) and work with them on creating some awesome, specially designed artworks you can wear on your body.
Of all our collaborations, one of our most longstanding – and most loved by our customers – has been with Japanese artist Shichigoro-Shingo. Shichigoro’s first BlackMilk designs were the Mechanical leggings and Mecha Girl Sad swimsuit way back in 2012, and you guys nommed those ones like crazy.
So we asked him to make some other pieces for us (the Mecha Girl leggings and Mecha Girl Rabbit hoodie swim) and yup, you nommed those too. Since then, Shichigoro has created 16 unique artworks for us across close to 30 pieces. It’s pretty clear you guys love his work as much as we do.
The good news is: we’ve got four awesome Shichigoro pieces coming to ya this week as part of the Hot Little Goths collection. You can check ‘em out here:
We had a quick chat with Shichigoro about his work, which you can read while you’re waiting for those hot little pieces to drop. You can also see more of his amazing work here.
How did you first come to work with BlackMilk Clothing?
I received an email from jL back in March 2012, saying that he wanted to use my artwork on a few BlackMilk pieces, and it all went from there.
How do you create your artworks?
All of my artworks for BlackMilk Clothing are digital paintings, which I draw in Adobe Photoshop. You can see the process in action here.
Do you have a personal favourite?
What are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by various genres, such as cartoons, comics, movies, arts, toys and music. I especially like AKIRA by Katsuhiro Otomo, the illustrations of Katsuya Terada and Kazuhiko Nakamura’s artworks.
