FAQs: BlackMilk Fit
In September 2018, we updated lots of our gear to the new 'BlackMilk Fit'.
Why did BlackMilk release gear with a new fit?
Comfortable and consistent fit is really important to giving you a great customer experience.
After listening to your feedback from posts, customer experience messages and our customer survey, and conducting an extensive review across all of our shapes and fabric, we made positive changes to make sure that our fit and sizing is consistent across all products - no matter the style or the fabric it’s made out of - so you can shop your size with confidence.
What was involved in the project?
We wanted to get this right, so this project took our team a number of months to complete. Led by our in-house technical expert, the team undertook an extensive review of fit across every single style and fabric combination.
With so many styles and fabrics in our collections, we made over 500 fitting sample garments over the duration of the project to help us improve and establish our consistent BM fit.
How a product fits, is dependent on a combination of pattern and the fabric and what processes that fabric goes through. So, as part of the project we:
1.evaluated our base sizing for comfort and shape
2.looked at the percentage stretch in each of the fabrics we use
3.measured the printing shrinkage caused by our unique sublimation printing techniques
4.tested every base garment on our in-house fitting model as well as lots of other staff members and some of our customers.
5.reviewed how our cutting and sewing processes affect the final products and made the necessary adjustments.
We also tightened the quality check tolerances of our garments and increased our overall QC process.
All of these standards and processes work in conjunction to result in consistently-sized, high-quality garments.
Who was involved in testing the new fit?
We started by analysing original fit and comparing fit across different categories to identify what improvements could be made. We then amended the base fits and tested every single style on our in-house fitting model who measures exactly to our size S fit measurement guide. This allowed us to make sure that all the base patterns were consistent. We then also tested full size sets on over 50 of our BM staff members across all shapes and size ranges as well as getting some of our long-standing customers involved to test and give feedback. All up, over 500 garments were tried on and tested across all the different sizes with overwhelming positive feedback on the new fit from everyone involved.
