Louis Hingre started his career as a sculptor, but was so enamoured by the work of Alphonse Mucha that by the 1890s he too was dabbling in the world of art nouveau. This design is based on a poster he produced for a French perfumery in 1901, and contains all the hallmarks of the art nouveau style: a female figure personifying an element of nature (in this case, violets) rendered in intricate, interwoven detail.
When my baby smiles at me – it's because I'm wearing this awesome top. The flounced cap sleeves are perfect for a Brazilian summer, and the tie can be worn around the neck, as a cheeky little front bow or even as a hair accessory.
