The jackalope – a fearsome creature that appears to be part rabbit and part antelope – has been a part of North and Central American mythology in some form for centuries, but its current iteration is attributed to a pair of taxidermist brothers who created a jackalope by adding deer horns to a rabbit’s body in the 1930s. Nowadays, the jackalope creation trade is still running strong in the American taxidermy world, which just goes to show that even the strangest ideas can become an unexpected success.
