Gustave Doré created this insanely detailed artwork for an 1866 edition of the Holy Bible. It depicts a prophecy made by the prophet Ezekiel, who had a dreamlike vision of human bones rising from a valley and regrowing their flesh, ready to be resurrected and returned to the land of Israel. Doré’s illustration shows the skeletons while they are rising, Ezekiel watching from above and probably wondering what on earth he had eaten that day.
